Greg Oden Reaches Plea Deal
Former NBA player and number one draft pick Greg Oden has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, according to court documents. Oden was arrested in August of 2014 after an altercation between he and his girlfriend at his mothers home in Lawrence, Indiana. Oden was charged with two felony battery counts as well as two misdemeanor counts. He pleaded guilty to battery with moderate bodily injury, while the other three charges were tossed. Oden was fined $200 dollars, ordered to take domestic violence sensitivity classes, and was placed on probation for 909 days.
Oden, who was selected by the Portland Trailblazers with the No. 1 pick in 2007, has continued his slide from prominence. After being named an NCAA first team all american in 2007, Oden's talent never translated to NBA success. He missed the entirety of the 2007-2008 due to a knee injury and played sparingly for the Blazers through the 2012 season when he saw another major setback and was waived by the team. Oden returned to the NBA in 2013 for the Miami Heat, averaging 2.3 points in 9.2 minutes per game. Oden's altercation could prove to be the end of his basketball career.
